Gannett New Jersey makes an excellent point in a rather spectacular series of stories on Trenton politics this week: "In a state that asks when, not if, the next lawmaker will be indicted, it's been more than a decade since the Legislature's ethics panel has even scolded a legislator." Over the last 35 years, the legislature's ethical standards panel has reviewed more than one hundred complaints — in 1978, they levied a $200 fine against a legislator, and they reprimanded two in 1992.
