Good Luck, Chuck! Silky swishing will be found tonight as Chuck Close is feted at a Whitney Gala and Studio Party. The co-chairs for this shindig include Kyra Sedgwick and hubby Kevin Bacon, Meryl Streep (whom we find ourselves loving more and more) and hubby Donald Gummer, Lauren Bush, Amanda Hearst and fun-to-say Dalia Oberlander. Folks will clinkity-clink cocktails in the Sculpture Court followed by dinner for 500 upstairs—napkins, gentlemen!—all keeping with the evening’s theme of “Shades of Gray,” while pianist Bruce Levingston will perform Philip Glass’ “A Musical Portrait of Chuck Close.” Wild stuff, no? Not too far away at Christie’s Auction House, the lovely Caroline Kennedy hosts the SKIP (Sick Kids need Involved People) “Friendraiser,” whose mission is to “provide advocacy and support by providing access to all necessary services for families who care for their chronically ill or developmentally disabled children at home.” Being honored this evening are Mort Zuckerman and Dorothy and Hamilton Jordon, founders of Camp Sunshine, and expected attendees include Deidre and Don Imus (he’s back!), Jason Alexander, and comedian Rob Barlett, who will be hosting the live auction. Lock up your wee kitties! And finally, remember the Knicks? Yeah, unfortunately we do, too. The tattered and beleaguered team takes the Garden floor to play a preseason game against the Boston Celtics, which might just be the only team we hate more than the Knicks. Maybe.
