Lance will run for Congress

Senate Minority Leader Leonard Lance has decided to run for Congress, and is telling Republican leaders that he will enter the race for Mike Ferguson's seat.

Insiders say that Lance has secured support in Hunterdon County, which cast the most votes in the 2006 GOP House primary. Freeholder-elect Will Mennen, who has been exploring a congressional bid, is expected to endorse Lance, according to a Hunterdon Republican official close to both candidates.

Kate Whitman, the daughter of former Gov. Christine Todd Whitman, Assembly Minority Conference Leader Peter Biondi, Summit Councilwoman Kelly Hatfield, Scotch Plains Mayor Martin Marks, conservative activist and former professional wrestler Michael Illions, and Chris Venis, a former aide to Rep. Bob Franks, are also looking at the 7th district race. Lance will run for Congress
