Here come the Aussies! Throw some shrimps on the barbie and grab a handful of your favorite Sheila! Murdoch’s mavens at News Corp. throw a party at the Hilton, perhaps celebrating their conquest of The Wall Street Journal (Watch your back, Pinch!), which became official yesterday but whose staff was not invited tonight. (Those who were were asked to “Save the Planet and the Date”—we’re not even going there.) Can Mr. M top last year’s bash, of which one staffer said: “The best part of the night was right when the event started and all the HarperCollins employees were running around gleefully with their BlackBerrys going, ‘Judith Reagan’s been fired! She’s been fired!’ It was pretty amazing.” And on the completely opposite side of the media spectrum, the beleaguered underdogs at The Village Voice drown their sorrows in draft beer at the Canal Room. At last year’s bash, said one Voicer, “Corrado ‘Junior’ Soprano played guitar and sang ballads and complained that we were all making too much noise and not paying attention. Also there were scantily clad vaudeville dancers prancing around. Which was cool.” Our source added, “The next day, one of my friends claimed that someone at the party had slipped his wife a mickey.” (Yes, that’s definitely why she disappeared into the coat check for 23 minutes.) Finally and hilariously, Extra! fetes itself at Nikki Beach, midtown mecca of all things Miami. (Last year Katie Couric was the rumored surprised guest; she didn’t show.)

[News Corp holiday party, Hilton New York, 1335 Avenue of the Americas, 6:30 p.m.; The Village Voice holiday party, the Canal Room, 285 West Broadway, 6:30 p.m.; Extra! holiday party at Nikki Beach, 151 East 50th Street; all invite only]
