Politics in court

In Fairfield Township, where Democratic Township Committeeman Albert Beverly lost re-election to Republican Patrick Conahey by just five votes, lawyers for both sides will be before a Cumberland County Superior Court Judge this month to discuss the legal merits of a recount. Clearly, Beverly wants a recount and Conahey does not.

Maybe this case can be merged with the one from Parsippany, where a trial is set for January to review the election results of a 2005 race for mayor – even though Democrat Michael Luther, the narrow winner, has been in office for nearly two years. That legal battle features a faceoff between two legends: Angelo Genova for Luther and John Carbone for Republican Rosemarie Agostini.
