Another record on the table for Lautenberg

Frank Lautenberg, 84, never ran for office until he was 58-years-old and has never won more than 55% of the vote in a statewide election, but if he wins a fifth term later this year, he would become the longest serving United States Senator in New Jersey history.

The record now belongs to Clifford Case, who served from 1955 to 1979. In 47 days, Lautenberg is set to pass Harrison Williams as the second longest serving Senator; Williams, who was elected in 1958, resigned on March 11, 1982 following his criminal conviction.
