An addendum to our article yesterday about the lack of willingness to sandwich the Brooklyn House of Detention with condos: The closed jail, which the city is intent on doubling in size and reopening, is likely to have a retail component, should the city find anyone willing to set up shop in its base.

Department of Corrections spokesman Stephen Morello tells us that the city now intends to include retail space in the design of the jail, which sits on Atlantic Avenue and Smith Street and then the city would lease it out.

Perhaps a Whole Foods to rival the Trader Joe’s one block to the west? We’ll see.
