Corzine’s popularity dips

A Monmouth University/Gannett poll puts Gov. Corzine’s approval rating in the negative for the first time.

Corzine’s job performance approval rating stands at 40%, while 44% of New Jerseyeans disapprove of his performance – that’s down significantly from an October Monmouth poll that had his approval at 46% and disapproval of 32%.

Corzine’s popularity dropped six points among Democrats, six points among independents and 13 points with Republicans.

The poll also asked residents to assign Corzine a letter grade on several local issues, drawing an overall C-minus.

"Jon Corzine has deposited little in the bank of public good will so far," said Monmouth University pollster Patrick Murray. "Considering what he now wants to accomplish with his debt reduction plan, it is not an auspicious start to the second half of his term."

The poll sampled 804 adult New Jersey residents, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5%. Corzine’s popularity dips
