Representative Steve Rothman said that today’s south Jersey defections from Hillary Clinton to Barack Obama shows that New Jersey Democrats are coalescing around the candidate he thinks will ultimately win the nomination.
“[Obama’s] campaign is gaining momentum all over America and in New Jersey. Today's welcome announcement from these well-regarded and influential South Jersey leaders, coupled with DNC Member Roz Samuels joining the campaign last week, really shows that New Jersey Democrats continue to pull together to support Senator Obama,” said Rothman. “We are delighted with these developments and look forward to working together to secure our Party's nomination, deliver New Jersey in November and elect Barack Obama as the 44th President of the United States."
Rothman, the northeast regional co-chair of the Obama campaign, is the most high ranking Obama supporter in the state. Other prominent Obama backers include Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah Healy and Newark Mayor Cory Booker.
