Obama organizer challenges Vicari in Ocean freeholder’s contest

She organized for Barack Obama as the presidential candidate's Ocean County campaign co-chair, and now Stacy Lubrecht of Brick Township is running her own campaign for freeholder.

The 38-year old director of a not-for-profit mental health agency today said shehas secured support from Ocean County Democratic Party Chairman Wyatt Earpin her challenge ofRepublican Freeholder Joseph Vicari of Toms River.

"I think Ocean County needs representation that is transparent and more in touch with young people and one-income families," said the candidate.

Lubrecht was unaffiliated until last year when she registered as a Democrat and backed Obama for president.

"I'm not a party line person," she said. "I'm an issues and a people person."

The 61-year old Vicari, who has served as a freeholder for 27 years, said in reaction to Lubrecht's campaign, "I welcome her into the race for the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders. I hope she offers some suggestions on how we can fight Corzine’s proposals, and I look for her experience and involvement in Ocean County."
