Senators push for Milgram testimony on McGreevey e-mails

State Sens. Jennifer Beck (R-Monmouth) and Kevin O’Toole (R-Essex) said that Democrats on the Senate State Government Committee turned down their request to force Attorney General Anne Milgram to testify before the State Government Committee to answer questions about her investigation into deleted e-mails during Gov. James E. McGreevey’s administration.

“Thousands of emails sent and received by members of the the scandal-plagued McGreevey administration have been destroyed,” said Beck. “A thorough explanation is needed as to why these documents were deleted and who authorized their removal.”

O’Toole says that the deletion of e-mails and other computer documents “may be an indictable offense.”

“The law stipulates that electronic records must be reviewed and archived by authorized staffers. Erasing this information is against the law and the fact that no one has been held responsible for allowing this to occur is alarming,” O’Toole said.
