You people love yourselves a gala! (If you’ll excuse us, we’re off to watch Celebrity Rehab!) The Frick Collection’s Annual Young Fellows Ball (actually, we do like young fellows …) requires “Costume Opulento” and a mask—at least, we think that’s what “Maschera” means—and features a stacked list of co-chairs and “founding chairmen” like world champion socialite Tinsley Mortimer, her younger competition, Byrdie Bell, and dignified party-picture regulars Lauren du Pont, Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer and Vogue writer Marina Rust Connor. Meanwhile, competing for space on PatrickMcMullan.com will be the Nature Conservancy’s Young Professionals Group Aprés-Ski at the Bowery Hotel, featuring a live auction by Christie’s of prizes such as “round trip helicopter flights.” (We don’t even want to think about what a one-way helicopter trip would look like.) And finally, talk-show host and aspiring world poker champion Montel Williams hosts his MS Foundation Gala & Pro-Celebrity Poker Challenge at Cipriani. “I started [the foundation] after I was diagnosed with MS in 2000,” Mr. Williams told us, adding that this will be the foundation’s first fund-raiser. He decided to get the poker community involved because they are actually quite a selfless group, he said. “It’s funny, I’m a big poker player, I play a lot of poker, I’ve been participating in a lot of World Series of Poker events. … I didn’t realize, initially, how big the hearts are of a lot of people who play a game that seems so salaciously one-sided and self-centered.” Mr. Williams admitted that his “celebrity gives me an opportunity to play in a lot of games that a lot of other people don’t get an invitation to. It’s almost like if you enter college as a freshman and they walk right in and stick you in the grad classes for a Ph.D.” That said, his game is improving. “I played a tournament last weekend that started with 678 people and I finished 202—in a field of about 600 of the top pros in the world!”
