Pennacchio won the county line with 247 votes to rival Andy Unanue’s 51.

Murray Sabrin, who refused to drop his plan to run alternate slates of freeholder candidates, was not allowed to participate.

The seventh district congressional race went to a second round of votes between Kate Whitman and Leonard Lance after no candidates managed to win a simple majority.

Lance got 100 votes in the first round to Whitman's 67.

Six other candidates competed in the convention:

Martin Marks – 17

Thomas Roughneen – 4

A.J. Amar – 3

Kelly Hatfield – 3

Chris Venis- 1

The Somerset Republicans also voted to keep their incumbent freeholders on the county line.

Freeholder Director Peter Palmer got 206 votes, while incumbent Robert Zaborowski got 175. Challengers Finn Caspersen and John Malay got 140 and 93 votes, respectively.
