Senate candidate Murray Sabrin’s camp has joined forces with a rebel Ocean County Republican group to form a slate against the county’s dominant Republican organization.
The new allies plan a press conference today across from Ocean County Republican Chairman George Gilmore’s law offices.
“While our nation is a war and our economy is suffering, Boss Gilmore and his corrupt lackeys continue to care more about lining their own pockets than protecting Ocean County families. One of the main reasons the New Jersey Republican Party has continued to fail is because the leadership of the GOP is riddled with conflicts of interest,” said a statement issued by Sabrin.
The slate, which will run under the slogan of the “Traditional Republican Organization of Ocean County,” is headed by Sabrin and Congressional candidate Justin M. Murphy, who’s from Burlington County. Suzanne Penna, an Ocean County resident who had been running for Congress, is now a freeholder candidate. Also running is Peter McCarthy for County Clerk and Donato Lombardi for Surrogate.
Last week, conservative leader Steve Lonegan cancelled his appearance at a Sabrin fundraiser, reportedly in protest of the personal attacks that some say has marred the campaign.
Gilmore could not be reached for comment.
