The scene is set for the second leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday, May 17, 2008: the 133rd Preakness.
Here’s a look at the field:
No. 7 – Big Brown: It’s been 30 years since a Triple Crown winner. Could it be Big Brown?
No. 5 – Behindatthebar: Won grade two LexingtonStakes in last start. Has yet to win on a dirt track.
No. 12 – Gayego: Will have to improve—finished 17th against Big Brown in the Derby.
No. 11 – Giant Moon: Nice New York bred. But probably won’t run well against this field.
No. 13 – Hey Byrn: Has won three out of four starts. Only defeat was to Big Brown in the Florida Derby.
No. 3 – Icabad Crane: Won on this track in last start. Has just lost once.
No. 8 – Kentucky Bear: Big Brown beat him in The Fountain Of Youth Stakes.
No. 1 – Macho Again: Has hit the board five out of eight starts.
No. 6 – Racecar Rhapsody: Finished second in his last start. Will have the services of last year’s winning jockey Robby Albarado.
No. 10 – Riley Tucker: Has been in the money five of six starts.
No. 9 – Stevil: Has just one career win.
No. 2 – Tres Borrachos: One win and three thirds in seven races.
No. 4 – Yankee Bravo: Ran well in his only dirt start.
My top five selections are:
No. 7- Big Brown
No. 3- Icabad Crane
No. 13- Hey Byrn
No. 10- Riley Tucker
No. 1- Macho Again
Let’s hope all horses and riders have a safe trip.
