Dahroug and the Democratic Establishment

Earlier, I wrote that some Democrats are not very enthusiastic about seeing fellow Democrat Jimmy Dahroug make a third attempt to unseat Republican State Senator Caesar Trunzo on Long Island.

Today’s Newsday has more on the story.

The article describes how State Senate Democratic Leader Malcolm Smith, along with others, is recruiting Brookhaven Supervisor Brian Foley to run for the seat. Political consultant Doug Forand, who worked for the State Senate Democrats until recently, is even quoted as saying that Foley “would be the strongest candidate” to run against Trunzo.

There’s no mention of Dahroug, which is something of a snub.

The story comes out the day before a major fund-raiser for Dahroug in Manhattan, which will be headlined by Democracy for America Chair Jim Dean, who is also Howard Dean’s brother.
