Did anyone notice that The New York Times completely overlooked the $32.9 billion budget adopted by the state legislature on Monday?
Despite its run-up to the grand event, nary a mention could be found on its inside pages or in the Metro section.
Even our Philly neighbors at the Inky gave front-page coverage to the state's budget passage. In fact, the story ran front-page-lead in every major daily — that's if you don't count local papers like The Daily Record and Burlington County Times.
So what gives? At least one of our readers wondered if the departure of David Chen has orphaned the Jersey-side coverage. Perhaps … but the NYT also came up short when it came to last year's budget reporting.
