Here’s Bill Thompson at the rally outside City Hall this afternoon urging the state (i.e. David Paterson) to save the Off Track Betting parlors in New York City before they close in four days.
“The state continued to stick their hand further and further and further in the pocket of New York City O.T.B., taking more and more and more,” Thompson said. “We did a press conference back in 2006 and said if this situation isn’t dealt with now, eventually New York City is going to have to subsidize O.T.B. to keep it open. Well, that time has come.”
Thompson explains that the money O.T.B. makes goes to fund other horse racing ventures throughout the state.
“Yonkers Raceway, when it was closed, they got a million dollars a year. For being closed,” Thompson said. “Albany needs to make the changes now. ”
