You've Got Some 'Splainin' to Do Before Getting the Free Girl Talk Album!

You can get Girl Talk’s newest album Feed the Animals for free, but first you’ve got some ‘splainin’ to do! Greg Gillis, who goes by the stage name Girl Talk, released his follow-up to 2006’s Night Ripper yesterday. He now becomes the newest artist to embrace the "pay-what-you-want" scheme first introduced by Radiohead last year. At the download page, paying $5 or more will get you high-quality FLAC audio files (as opposed to 320kbps mp3s for free). Shell out $10 and you get an IOU for a physical CD when it comes out. Cheapskates who want it for free have to tick off one of these explanation as to why, well, they’re cheapskates:

  • I may donate later
  • I can’t afford to pay
  • I don’t really like Girl Talk
  • I don’t believe in paying for music
  • I have already purchased this album
  • I don’t value music made from sampling
  • I am part of the press, radio, or music industry
  • Other reasons
Girl Talk, of course, has taken a lot of heat for his rampant, uncredited sampling. Wikipedia nerds have already plotted out the songs he "borrows" from on the new album.
