Fifth District Democratic Challenger Dennis Shulman and incumbent Rep. E. Scott Garrett raised close to the same amount of money last fundraising quarter, though Garrett retains a significant cash advantage.
Shulman raised $270,000 last quarter, according to his campaign, bringing his total raised so far to about $585,000, with $258,000 cash on hand after a primary against attorney Camille Abate.
“We’re excited that grassroots energy for Dennis’s campaign is translating into the resources that we need to get the message out in November,” said Shulman Campaign Manager Jeff Hauser.
So far, Shulman has raised $11,000 more than previous Democratic challenger Paul Aronsohn raised in the entire 2006 election cycle.
Garrett raised $294,000 last quarter, bringing his total so far just short of the million dollar mark, at $983,000, according to Cammpaign Manager Amanda Gasperino.
Having been spared a primary, Garrett has two-and-a-half times the amount of cash-on-hand as Shulman, with about $649,000 in the bank.
