Codey to receive top legislative award on Wednesday

Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex) will receive the nation’s highest state legislative honor this Wednesday in New Orleans at the 34th Annual National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL)

Codey, and Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry commissioner Steve Sviggum are scheduled to receive the 2008 Excellence in State Legislative Leadership Award.

“These two men demonstrate a deep loyalty to the legislative institution and exemplify the varieties of legislative leadership that we have in this country,” said NCSL Executive Director William T. Pound.

According to a release, the Excellence in State Legislative Leadership Award is presented annually by NCSL and the State Legislative Leaders Foundation (SLLF) to honor “leaders whose careers embody the highest principles of leadership and who have shown a commitment to protecting and strengthening the institution of the state legislature.”
