When a long-running, massively influential band breaks up, it’s a given that hordes of crazy fans will travel from the far ends of the earth to be at that band’s final concert. For the Police, that concert is taking place on Aug. 7 at Madison Square Garden—the B-52’s are opening—and New York Public Television is giving the crazy fans all the more reason to add a little debt to their credit cards.
It’s auctioning off various “rare VIP access packages” on eBay that include chances to actually meet the band, with proceeds going toward Thirteen/WNET and WLIW21. The first wave of auctions is live now through July 24, and the second one begins on Aug. 4, just days before the MSG show. Up for grabs:
Auction, Wave 1: July 14– 24. Package examples include:
The Police Ultimate VIP Package for Two: Includes an intimate Meet n’ Greet with The Police, Photos with the band, Front Row Seats, Access to the final Sound Check with The Police (a few guests will be invited on stage to lend their rock star ability to the rehearsal), Special pre-concert dinner and cocktail reception invitations, and Limited edition last concert souvenirs.
The B-52s VIP Package for Four: Includes a completely private Meet n’ Greet with the band, Front row seats, Rare and private access to attend The B-52s Sound Check, four one-of-a-kind gift sets of B-52s signed memorabilia (CDs, shirts, posters), and Special pre-concert dinner and cocktail reception invitations.
Auction, Wave 2: Begins August 4th at 7:00pm (ET)- August 14th.
The second wave of the auction will feature a complete set of The Police’s autographed instruments including: Sting’s Signature Bass; Sting’s Sennheiser Microphone and Stand (used during the 2007/2008 world Police tour); Andy’s Signature Fender Telecaster; plus Stewart’s Tama Star Drum Set (played at 2007 GRAMMY Awards).
