The Kennedys co-opt even more square footage along our nation’s waterfront, hosting a Memorial 40th Anniversary Celebration in honor of the late R.F.K., prolific speaker and procreator, at a private home in East Hampton (similar celebrations will be held in Kennedy-friendly cities like Hyannis Port and Jackson Hole). In attendance: Rory and Ethel Kennedy, not to mention random Kennedys named Courtney and Kerry (not to be confused with Cory, the infamous underage MySpace-ster who is not, as far as we know, related to R.F.K.). Alas, neither Teddy, a.k.a. dear ole dad’s excuse for hating all Democrats, and Robert Jr., the smoldering environmentalist, will be on hand. Sweaty worthies will also flock to designer Donna Karan and suspiciously cheery oddity Kelly Ripa’s “garage sale” for the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, whose President Faith Kates Kogan told us she hopes to raise $4 million and that she herself plans to buy “everything that’s not nailed down.” And while we had her captive attention: What can we do to not get ovarian cancer? Ms. Kogan broke it to us gently: “There’s really nothing you can do to prevent it. It’s not like you can eat better, it’s not like you can do anything different with your life. I think in life you get lucky with a lot of things. This is really more a health thing where the only thing you can do to keep it in check is to really go to your gynecologist and …” (Done! Our gyno is cute!) Later, book your dermatologist appointments early, ladies; it’s the social event of the summer! The 15th Annual Watermill Summer Benefit will feature a live auction by Simon de Pury (you haven’t really lived until you’ve dropped millions on a de Kooning in full view of everyone!) and a treeful of artists, designers and rockers who share a love of promoting art and Cape Cod-style home ownership in Bridgehampton, among them artists Jeff Koons, Chuck Close and Nan Goldin; designers Diane von Furstenberg, Calvin Klein and Donna Karan; rockers Roger Waters, Tom Waits and David Bowie; unclassifiable Marilyn Manson-ex Dita Von Teese; and Mikhail Baryshnikov, a dancer who played an artist on Sex and the City. Still with us? Bring Mr. Bowie some Skittles.
