Ms. Conrad was supposed to headline the event, organized by the Humane Society and Animal Fair Magazine, and walk the runway with her dog Chloe in a dress of her own design. Ms. Conrad showed up for the red-carpet, and even told Daily Transom that if she were a dog, she’d "probbaly be a mutt. They’re the cutest."

But then, according to organizers of the event, Ms. Conrad—who arrived with a borrowed dog, not Chloe!—was unhappy with the scene and took off.

When the emcee introduced the celebrities and their dogs, he said that Ms. Conrad would not be appearing. (Neither would Chloe, apparently.) "Those reality stars can be such temperamental bitches," he reportedly said.

"<!–Back stage, Lauren was acting upset, but it looked like acting. It just seemed so staged. Like there was no anxiety there. She kept making sad eyes and pouting."

Back stage, Lauren was acting upset, but it looked like acting. It just seemed so staged. Like there was no anxiety there,” Social Life magazine editor Devorah Rose told Daily Transom. Ms. Rose was backstage preparing to walk with her own poodle, Buttercup, who had been dyed to match Ms. Rose’s magenta Jerry Tam-designed dress."She kept making sad eyes and pouting."

Other dog-owners expected to walk were photographer Nigel Barker (no pun intended) and designers Marc Jacobs and Tory Burch: Alas, they also were no-shows. But Richard Belzer of Law and Order: SVU—yes, that’s conspiracy-theory-loving Munch—made an appearance with Bebe, both dressed in Von Dutch.

"Her publicist didn’t tell her it was a fashion show. That’s what she said. I just think it’s really rude," Wendy Diamond, the editor-in-chief of Animal Fair magazine, told New York Magazine’s The Cut. "[The Humane Society] spent probably $10,000 in bringing her here. If you’re going to fly here first-class and get a suite at a hotel for you and your assistant, then that’s what you deal with. There’s no cats here, so we didn’t need any catfights."

Ms. Conrad’s responde? Writing on her Celebrity MySpace Blog, she said:

I agreed to pose for the cover of the magazine, host the event, do press at the event and donate clothing, all of which I did. I was not aware of any other commitments. I was not paid to attend the event and my hotel room was donated to the charity. I also made a voluntary donation to the Humane Society for more then the cost of my airfare so there would be no expense to the charity. I have always been responsible and keep my word on all commitments. I am extremely hurt and disappointed that Wendy Diamond would go to the press and attack me with untrue statements.

Now can anyone just tell us whose dog she borrowed?
