Stat of The Day: NY vs. NJ Household Incomes

New Jersey’s 2007 median housebold income of $67,035 bested New York’s by $13,521 in 2007, according to Census estimates released earlier this week, roughly the same difference as in 2006.

Northern Jersey likely lifted the state’s median, much as downstate New York (read: Manhattan, Long Island and Westchester) lifts the rest of the Empire State. Somerset County in central Northern Jersey, for instance, had a median household income nearly three times that of the Bronx, at $97,658.
