New Jersey’s most popular politician is Senate President Richard Codey, according to a new Zogby International poll released today. Codey, who served as Governor from November 2004 to January 2006, has a 66%-17% favorable rating among New Jersey likely voters.
Gov. Jon Corzine is at 55%-42%, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg is at 52%-35%, U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez is at 43%-33%, and U.S. Attorney Christopher Christie is at 42%-13%.
Codey is considered a possible candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2009, either for an open seat if Corzine does not seek re-election, or in a primary against Corzine. Among Democratic likely voters, Codey’s favorable rating is 71%-12%; Corzine is at 73%-23%.
