It’s a cloudy, humid opening day at the 2008 U.S. Open, with thunderstorms threatening this afternoon. The USTA has announced record advance sales for the tournament, with more than 660,000 tickets sold and distributed. It’s likely, then, that attendance this year will exceed the all-time record of 715,587 set in 2007. Making the line for burgers ever worse.
We’re watching today for Rafael Nadal’s match this afternoon, as well as the first round match for 29th seed Austrian Sybille Bammer, who is our favorite, if not the favorite to win. (Full disclosure: we pulled Bammer’s name out of the trophy during last week’s draw ceremony, and this blog will be the source for all things Bammerian, at least for as long as she stays in the mix.)
