Honestly, this might be the best day at the Open in years. Each marquee match offers a lot:
Mardy Fish v. Gael Monfils:
Fish is finally coming into form with an impressive victory over James Blake, and now he plays the wonderfully entertaining Gael Monfils who had that fantastic run to the French Open semis this year. Our pick: MONFILS
Rafael Nadal v. Sam Querrey:
We’ve fallen in love with Querrey, and with some crowd support he should be able to give Nadal a run. But we’re still rooting for Nadal because the propsect of that Nadal-Federer final is just far too attractive an idea. Our pick: NADAL
Aggie Radwanska v. Venus Williams:
Venus Williams said she’s never been playing better, but Maria Sharapova was on a roll last year until she met Aggie Radwanska on that Saturday afternoon at Ashe. With Radwanska returning to Ashe does she have another trick up her sleeve? Our pick: WILLIAMS
Stanislas Wawrinka v. Andy Murray:
Murray, the Colin Montgomerie of tennis, finally gets to play on Ashe in primetime later tonight. His opponent is that one other mighty Swiss player, Stanislas Wawrinka, who’s been playing wonderfully this summer, including an Olympics Gold in doubles with Roger Federer. Our Pick: WAWRINKA
Kei Nishikori v. Juan Martin Del Porto:
The Japenese sensation, Nishikori, shocked David Ferrer two days ago, and now he’ll take on everyone’s favorite darkhorse, Del Porto. Our Pick: DEL PORTO
ALSO PLAYING: Serena Williams, Dinara Safina and a resurgent Amelie Mauresmo
