Day 9 Preview: Goodbye Armstrong, Hello Ashe

On Saturday we said goodbye to the outside courts, and now we say farewell to Louis Armstrong. The draws are small enough that both sides can play on Ashe.

Here are our matches for today:

Tommy Robredo v. Novak Djokovic, Ashe, approxiamtely, 12:30pm:

This match is Djokovic’s to lose, and he almost certainly won’t. But he needs to make sure this one doesn’t go four sets so he can save some energy for what could be a grueling final three matches. Our pick: DJOKOVIC

Sybille Bammer v. Jelena Jankovic, Ashe, 7pm:

Jankovic hasn’t played her best this tournament, and Bammer has been sublime. Look for the major league upset in Bammer’s first quarterfinal appearence. Our picK: BAMMER

Elena Dementieva v. Patty Schnyder, Ashe, 11am:

Schnyder could give Dementieva a run, but the Olympics gold medalist is red hot. She should move onto the semis fairly easily. Our pick: DEMENTIEVA

Roger Federer v. Igor Andreev, Ashe, approximately 3pm:

No contest. Federer will return to the quarters. Our pick: FEDERER

Andy Roddick v. Fernando Gonzalez, Ashe, approxiamtely, 9pm:

Gonzalez could challenge Roddick here, but if Andy expects to get by tougher challenges in Djokovic/Federer/Nadal, which is the trio he’s slated to face in the next three rounds, he’ll want to make quick work of this one. Our pick: RODDICK
