MINNEAPOLIS – Burlington County Freeholder Director Aubrey Fenton dismissed Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention last week as sleep-inducing history.

"It was late on the East Coast when he started speaking, and I was dozing," said the Republican. "Certainly it was historic, but when you see these guys side-by-side in a debate, Obama and (Sen. John) McCain (R-Ariz.), there won’t be any contest. In Burlington, you’re looking at Fort Dix-McGuire, where McCain resonates very well."

In his own re-election battle with two Democrats this year, Fenton is in attendance here at the Republican National Convention.

A Youtube video released two weeks by his rivals, Evesham Deputy Mayor Chris Brown and Shamong Committeewoman Mary Anne Reinhart, alleges the trading in public jobs for political contributions by 20 members of the Burlington County Republican Organization, and criticizes Fenton for remaining silent on the subject.

"They’re trying to divert attention from the tax increase in Evesham’s budget," said Fenton. "They’re trying to incite things, and I’m not going to get into that. Their attack does not have merit. We have a good ethics policy and the way we contract our vendors is more than above board."

Fenton, who is running on a ticket with Freeholder Stacy Jordan, said he looks forward to two or three debates with the Democrats.
