VSL:WEB // Brevity is the soul of it

The shortest story attributed to Hemingway — “For sale: baby shoes, never worn” — required only six words. Well, Papa would have been proud of One Sentence, the website that encourages other, aspiring writers to top his achievement.

Some of the submissions are as odd as anything you’ll hear in a Steven Wright monologue (“Grandma hasn’t been the same since she flipped her SUV into that ravine”). Others shoot straight for the heartstrings (“This Christmas I didn’t have a Christmas”). Feel free to submit your own sentences — and brace yourself for the ensuing comments — but do keep the following in mind: No matter the length, a good story always leaves us wanting more.
