Dr. Alan Rosenthal, a political science professor at Rutgers University, has been named chairman of the Joint Legislative Committee on Ethical Standards. The announcement was made jointly by the Legislature's Democratic and Republican leadership, who named him under a new law that removes incumbent legislators from the watchdog panel.
"Without question, Dr. Rosenthal is the premier expert on state legislatures in the country," said Senate President Richard Codey (D-Essex). "His experience is second to none and his integrity is above reproach. He has also been a national leader in developing programs which promote civic education and the democratic process, such as the NCSL's 'Legislators-Go-Back-to School' program. I'm confident he will give this newly reconstituted committee the ethical muscle it deserves."
Each of the four legislative leaders get two appointments to the panel. Rosenthal is the ninth member.
