Greenwald won’t seek Adler Senate seat

Assemblyman Louis Greenwald will not be a candidate for State Senator if John Adler is elected to Congress on Tuesday, according to South Jersey Democratic officials. Greenwald has reportedly told friends and political allies that he prefers to remain as Chairman of the Assembly Budget Committee, rather than move over to the State Senate.”

If he wins, Adler would leave the Senate in January, triggering a special election convention to fill his seat. There would be a special primary in June 2009 and a special election in November 2009 to fill the remaining 26 months left on his current term.

Adler has represented the 6th district in the Senate since ousting four-term Republican Lee Laskin in 1991.
