Paterson: Fiscal ‘Ray of Sunshine’ Not a ‘Ray of Hope’

David Paterson was on CNBC’s Squawk Box this morning (7 a.m.!) talking, once again, like a fiscal conservative.

“I’m trying to fight the addiction of taxes,” Paterson said, referring to his resistance to using tax increases to deal with the state’s multi-billion dollar budget gap.

Paterson said a constituent told him the state’s fiscal problems must be over because the stock market rallied for one day last week.

The governor said he responded, “You can’t react to every ray of sunshine with a ray of hope.”

When one of the CNBC hosts said Paterson sounded more like a Republican than a Democrat, Paterson didn’t seem to mind.
