Douglas Dandles Devito: Now that we’ve recognized every disease in existence with a big expensive party and some chilled cocktail shrimp, we can go back to things that really matter, like arguing about which candidate loves Israel the most. (Why is it that whenever the Middle East is mentioned, we get a strange buzzing noise in our head?) Speaking of! Short ’n’ sweet actor Danny DeVito will be honored tonight at a gala kicking off the 23rd Israel Film Festival at the Ziegfeld. He will receive his award from half-Jewish Michael Douglas, the man whose portrayal of the oily Gordon Gekko in 1987’s Wall Street spawned a thousand investment banker doofuses, and who is currently weighing his participation in the inevitable Wall Street sequel. … Bring ’em some pumpkins from your Brooklyn kibbutz! Shalom!
