The ad, which is about 30 seconds long, is airing on AM 930 WBEN, and is sponsored by Focus on the Family. It praises Mesi’s Republican opponent, Mike Ranzenhofer, for supporting "traditional marriage," and criticized Mesi for receiving money from advocates of same-sex marriage who live outside the district and aren’t concerned with local issues.

Ranzenhofer, a Republican county legislator, is running neck-and-neck with Mesi, a former boxer running on the Democratic line. Mesi has received over $37,000 in donations from same-sex marriage supporters and said he supports equal marriage rights. Ranzenhofer said during a debate with Mesi (on the same radio station) that he defines marriage as being between a man and a woman.
