In the end, there was pizza, pasta and, rumor has it, a cake with a picture of Serf Maltese’s face on it.

But no one was happy at the Maltese victory party at the Friends of Serf Maltese headquarters on Myrtle Avenue in Glendale.

Swamped by an Obama-inspired Democratic tidal wave, Maltese, and quite possible his State Senate Republicans, had lost.

“It looks like it was overwhelmingly Obama… and the circumstances are such that it was not something we could achieve,” Maltese told the 50-odd supporters who had turned up, as he conceded the race to his Democratic challenger, City Councilman Joe Addabbo.
