Ronald Reagan's first U.S. Attorney was 39-year-old Hunt Dumont, the son of longtime State Sen. Wayne Dumont, the 1965 GOP candidate for Governor. Dumont resigned in 1985 to become vice president and general counsel of First Jersey Securities, whose founder, Robert Brennan, later went to prison for securities fraud. Dumont now serves as a Superior Court Judge, assigned to Morris County.

Thomas W. Greelish was named Acting U.S. Attorney in 1985 and served until Samuel Alito's appointment in 1987.
