WILLIAM R. TOMPKINS

Bill Tompkins was a Republican Assemblyman from Essex County when Dwight Eisenhower appointed him U.S. Attorney in 1953.  He resigned in 1954 to go to Washington as an Assistant U.S. Attorney General to head the internal security division.  He lost a bid for State Senator in 1965.
