ALBANY—The meeting of the Electoral College this afternoon was completely ceremonial, but the assemblage of the state's prominent Democrats in one room provided quite the opportunity for wisecracking.
David Paterson was nominated and voted in as the College's president. The nomination was offered by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, prompting Paterson to say "Thank you for nominating me, maybe I can return the favor sometime."
Comptroller Tom Dinapoli, in nominating State Senator Malcolm Smith as the College's vice president said, "I hope your next election in this chamber will go as smoothly as we suspect this one will."
The College voted 31-0 to make Barack Obama president of the United States.
