A recount on Monday, Dec. 22, at the Board of Elections in Morristown showed Democrat Dunham's total number of votes rising to 3,370 while Stevenson's remained 3,367, according to the Daily Record.

This afternoon, Stevenson conceded, according to a triumphant Lew Candura, chairman of the Morris County Democratic Committee.

“The attorney for Stevenson just called MCDC Counsel and said that Mr. Stevenson is NOT going to pursue the election contest any further!” Candura wrote in an email. “It’s over. All we need is the certificate of election so that the paperwork is in order for Dan to be sworn in in time for the reorganization.”

The contest was a holdover from the Nov. 4th election.
