Shelley Skinner, a downtown Jersey City community activist who planned to run for city council in Ward E, isn’t sure what she’s going to do now that incumbent councilman Steve Fulop has decided not to run for mayor
“I think obviously Steve’s decision does change things somewhat. I think time is really on my side,” she said. “There are options on the table, and I’m going to take my time to figure out which suits me best.”
Fulop said today he is not sure whether he wants to run for reelection in Ward E or mount a candidacy for an at-large seat.
Skinner is one of Fulop’s closest political allies, and although she previously said that she planned to run for the Ward E seat no matter what, she didn’t strike the same tone today.
“Steve is a close friend and we’re philosophically aligned, so I think it behooves us both not to rush into any decisions,” she said.
