Fairview Public Works Superintendent Paul Juliano today took his name out of the running to succeed Bergen County Democratic Chairman Joe Ferriero.
“I don’t have an interest in serving as the chairman. I’m sure my name surfaced in different circles, but I’ve never had an interest in being the chairman. It was actually a shock to me,” said Juliano, who saw his own name raised in a Bergen Record article on Sunday.
“I’m definitely flattered that my name, however it got there, was thrown into contention.”
Labor leader Richard K. “Buzz” Dressel, who expressed interest in the position shortly after Ferriero was indicted and whose name sprung up in the Record article, said today that he remains interested in the seat.
Ferriero, who took a leave of absence after his indictment, remains chairman. Vice-chair Kay Nest, meanwhile, is the Acting Chairwoman.
“A lot of people want me to start talking to municipal chairs, and I feel somewhat awkward about that, because Joe hasn’t resigned or been removed," he said. "And as far as I know, the bylaws don’t provide for any kind of transition to power. It’s an awkward thing. That being said, I’m still deeply involved in it, and I have no agenda."
