Bid a big, metaphoric adieu to 2008 with “The End” — a delightful Flickr photo set of classic end-title cards.
Half the fun lies in trying to guess which film each card belongs to (although that particular map of Africa could mean only Casablanca, and The Maltese Falcon’s Maltese falcon is a dead giveaway). The happiest endings dissolve over shots of kissing couples, and the collection as a whole is a welcome reminder of times when movies actually did end — when characters and audiences alike achieved “closure” instead of grasping toward the inevitable sequels. Here’s hoping the year ahead is in no way a sequel to or (gasp!) remake of 2008.
