VSL:WEB // ‘Pride and Prejudice’ meets Facebook

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a woman possessing a surfeit of Jane Austen knowledge must be in want of a blog. Such is the case for Miss DeeDee Baldwin — creator of a quietly witty Facebook version of Pride and Prejudice.

Austenbook casts the story of Mr. Darcy and the Bennet family in the form of news feeds: “Elizabeth Bennet promises never to dance with Mr. Darcy.” “15 of your friends are attending Ball at Netherfield.” And “Mrs. Bennet joined the group Widows of Men Killed in Duels.” (Baldwin rightfully gives props to her inspiration — the equally succinct McSweeney’s adaptation of Hamlet.) We do wish that the tabs and links were clickable, and we regret that we can’t go deeper into the funhouse. But those are minor quibbles; to quote Mr. Bennet, “You have delighted us long enough.”
