George Harrison, the 7th Python?

And now, for your viewing pleasure: a surreal clip of George Harrison performing on Eric Idle’s BBC series Rutland Weekend Television and expressing his deepest wish to be — a pirate!

Harrison, who would have turned 66 next month, once said he believed the spirit of the Beatles had passed into the Monty Python comedy troupe. This 1975 Christmas episode pairs him with a backing band that’s playing the chords to “My Sweet Lord.” But Harrison sings something entirely different. (Earlier in the episode, he had pitched Idle on the idea of a pirate sketch — he’d even put on an eye patch and a wooden leg.) Shamefully, the series is unavailable on DVD, so our thanks go out to the brilliant video pirate who posted this clip.
