Assemblyman Michael Doerty (R-Washington Twp.) announced two Hunterdon County endorsements for his 23rd District state senate run, that of High Bridge Mayor Mark Desire and Tewksbury Municipal Chair Shaun Van Doren.
“Mike Doherty is the best candidate for State Senate in the 23rd Legislative District,” said Desire. “He clearly has more experience than anyone else in the race, and, more importantly, he shares my conservative values. As our Assemblyman, Mike has always been there to help High Bridge when we need his assistance. He has my wholehearted endorsement for State Senate.”
“He led the opposition against Governor Corzine’s scheme to sell our toll roads to his friends on Wall Street, and he forced the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission to reduce its toll from $1.25 to .75 cents, saving millions of dollars for commuters, truckers, and consumers,” said Van Doren. “When Mike went to the Assembly, he said he wanted to be the people’s advocate and not the government’s advocate. He has delivered on that promise.”
The Waren-County based Doherty is in a contest with Assemblywoman Marcia Karrow (R-Raritan Twp.) of Hunterdon County for the vacated senate seat of U.S. Rep. Leonard Lance (R-Clinton).
