Pablo the Dog is a drug mule, a corpse, and the star of a £1m British ad campaign that’s put other, older antidrug PSAs to shame.
Sponsored by England’s drug help line FRANK, the first “Talk to Frank” spot aired last month. It begins with Pablo looking down at his own, empty body cavity and follows the drug trail from there — from shifty drug dealers to filthy bathroom stalls and strung-out teenagers. The PSA’s bone-dry narration is voiced by David Mitchell (of the brilliantly deadpan series That Mitchell and Webb Look), and in a recent survey, 83 percent of British teenagers said the ad was actually effective.
