Put the shrimps on the barbie! Yes, it’s Australia Week once again, and the streets will be flooded with Fosters, sheilas and frolickin’ Kiwis trying to horn in on the Aussie action—G’Day and suck it, Pommies!  Meanwhile, Alexis Maybank and Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, the genius entrepreneurs behind online designer clearinghouse Gilt Groupe, to whom we dutifully hand over half our paycheck each month from the privacy of our own cubicle, celebrate their site’s first glorious year at Shang, the cavernous new restaurant in the glitzy Thompson Lower East Side (which surely couldn’t have known it would open during Great Depression Redux!), joined by grateful fans and socialites such as “The Goober” (Marjorie Gubelmann) and “Doc Sammy” (Samantha Boardman Rosen) not to mention reality TV star Nina Garcia. And over at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Center—a party hub of late thanks to newly fur-free Donna—the designer helps preview an art exhibit co-created by Australian fashion photographer Russell James (an artist best known for his visionary work on the Victoria’s Secret catalog) and indigenous Australian artists. Among those in attendance will be reluctant heterosexual Hugh Jackman, star of box office “Oops!” Australia. See if he’ll let you play his didgeridoo.

[Gilt Groupe’s Anniversary Dinner, Shang, 187 Orchard Street, 8:30 p.m., invite only; Nomad: Two Worlds Preview Exhibit at Urban Zen Center at the Stephan Weiss Studio, 711 Greenwich Street, 6 p.m., invite only, open to public Jan. 23 through Jan. 29]
