On Staten Island, the health care group endorsed Debi Rose, the only woman in a crowded race that includes Ken Mitchell, formerly chief of staff to former councilman Mike McMahon.

In Jackson Heights the union endorsed Julissa Ferreras, former chief of staff to former councilman Hiram Monserrate.

The union did not take a position in the third special election, for the seat vacated by Joe Addabbo, whose former aide, Frank Gulluscio, was among the candidates just removed from the ballot.

A spokeswoman for the union said they may endorse in that race “once the candidates on the ballot are clear.”
